A group of Bangalore-based NGOs, CoronaCare Bengaluru, has stepped in with their service to offer food door-to-door in the time of the pandemic.
Initiative to help covid patients
The devastating second wave has shaken the state of Karnataka, with this, many patients and those with mild symptoms are being asked to isolate themselves at home. With the Covid infection making it hard to find the energy to cook healthy meals, here is a group that will provide you food at your doorstep.
Fresh and hygienic meals are provided free of cost for Covid patients put in home isolation and their families. The healthy food is being cooked at various kitchens scattered across the city and delivered to the doorstep.
The Good Quest Foundation, Project Vision, Don Bosco BREADS, AIFO, ECHO, and Orione Seva are among the NGOs that are involved in the initiative. “We are a group of people, of working professionals, students, entrepreneurs, people in the government field. We are all coming together as like-minded people to serve the community in need right now,” said Santhosh Kumar, director of Good Quest Foundation to NDTV.
“Our initiative is called Food To Your Doorstep. We are providing meals to patients in home isolation who can’t find hospital beds and can’t access the kitchen to cook. We are providing lunch and dinner. Our volunteers can deliver food to their doorstep,” he added.
“We are now operating in KR Puram and Mysuru Road, reaching nearly 80 families and 300 people. For now, we have a kitchen in Sultanpalya in RT Nagar. We are soon going to begin kitchen services in South Bengaluru and Whitefield,” said Vinod Kumar, from the team.
It is reported that there are 28 members, of whom 18 are field volunteers, including men and women and the rest volunteers work from home.
“We accept requests from people, assign volunteers for delivery, follow their addresses with a map, and deliver the food along with collecting feedback,” said Vinod.
Packed food
Abhijit, who is a young volunteer working at one of the kitchens said, “We prepare food packets for Covid patients and their families and deliver them as per requirement,” he said.
He also told that over 1,000 food packets are being delivered every day as part of the drive.
When asked about what is cooked on the menu, he said “chapati, rice, vegetables, sambar, Eggs and fruits. We prepare dishes as per the preferences of the families.”
Rehana has been receiving the meals for two weeks now after a friend helped organize them.
It is also shared that the group is also delivering medicines and providing counselling for those facing mental health issues because of the pandemic and the lockdown.
