“‘Corona curfew’ (night curfew) will be imposed between 10 pm-5 am from 10 to 20 April in Bangalore, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Tumkuru, Udupi and Manipal.”

“There is absolutely no restriction on movement of essential services, bus and other forms of transportation,” Yediyurappa said.

“As the corona is spreading, we have taken this measure to control it. We are not imposing any lockdown. People should not give room for such an action (lockdown) and should wear masks, maintain social distancing, and not gather at a place,” he said.

“We are trying to implement the suggestions given by the Prime Minister within this frame. With public cooperation, the spread of the virus can be contained. That’s the reason, without imposing night corona curfew in the state, we have selected some district centers… we want to see how effective it will be, if things don’t come under control, we may have to extend it to the entire state,” he said.

Strict protocols

According to the new guidelines- Marriages, functions, meetings, and events will have to happen within the boundaries that have been set. Rs 250 will be fined in case a person is not wearing the mask and it will be made more stringent.

In recent days, the state has been witnessing a definite rise in cases over the last month with Bangalore having most of the new numbers. The city has recorded over 4000 cases daily for the past few days. Active cases in Karnataka have now crossed 50,000. Over 50 lakh Covid vaccine shots have been administered so far.

According to reports, Karnataka is with 10 states besides Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, and Punjab that have registered a sharp rise in the daily COVID-19 cases accounting for 84.21 percent of the record 1.26 lakh new infections on Thursday, according to the Union Health Ministry.
